Jackson Wheeler Art Collection Exhibit -- Special Two Day Event

Featuring a Gallery Talk by "Jackson Wheeler on Collecting Art" Sunday, April 15th, 3 pm

Poet Jackson Wheeler and attorney Joe Rund will speak on he subject of buying local art and their experiences as collectors of local art.
Admission is $10. This talk is a benefit for the Artists’ Union Gallery.

Background on the Collection

For thirty years, Jackson Wheeler and Joe Gund have carefully collected pivotal works by Ventura County artists and photographers, making this a precious record of art produced in our area. Jackson has made a promised bequest of his collection to the Oxnard’s Carnegie Art Museum of over 50 works.

Jackson Wheeler,the founder of the Ventura Poetry Festival, is also known as a social worker & poet living in Oxnard, CA. A native of Andrews, NC in the Smoky Mountains, he is the author of two collections, Swimming Past Iceland (Mille Grazie Press, 1993) and with Glenna Luschei and David Oliveira, A Near Country: Poems of Loss (Solo Press, 1999). Having just stepped down as editor of SOLO: A Journal of Poetry, he is guest co-editing an American issue of the British journal, AGENDA as well as consulting on a Southern Appalachian issue of the journal Rivendell. He has work forthcoming in Praire Schooner, Rivendell, and an anthology from the Univ. of Iowa, A Fine Frenzy: Contemporary Poets Respond to Shakespeare. Jackson hosts the Arcade Poetry Series at the Carnigie Art Museum in Oxnard.
